APPLICATION OF CONDUCTIVE COATINGS FOR EMI/ RFI SHIELDING
RS Coatings have chosen the application of conductive coatings as preferred shielding solution due to its several advantages: applicable to any shape, a single operation to achieve shielding, may be incorporated to already launched or designed products.
Conductive coatings are loaded with metallic particles. The metal in the paint conducts electricity, therefore making the film conductive. A wide range of conductive coatings are used. Listed from the most conductive to the most resistant: Silver, Silver plated Copper & Nickel loaded paints are the most common conductive films applied to plastic or composite surfaces.
The spraying of conductive coatings is an ideal shielding solution for manufacturers of electronic and electrical products where plastic housings usually contain circuits and microprocessors generating EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference)/ RFI (Radio Frequency Interference). Unless shielded, external devices could be affected by these circuits and vice-versa. Conductive coatings are widely used as an anti-static solution for surfaces exposed to ESD (Electro Static Discharge).
